In its second year, the Australian Women’s Sevens Lunch held at the Tattersalls Club Sydney, was a huge success. The lunch raised over $16,000 for the Australian Women’s Sevens team and has given them a much-needed boost as they prepare for their gold medal campaign at Olympic Games in Rio. The Tattersalls Club Sydney generously donated $75 from each ticket sale to the Australian Women’s Sevens team.
The Australian Rugby Foundation are passionate about supporting not just the Australian Women’s Sevens team but women in rugby as a whole. Josephine Sukkar, Director at the ARF, welcomed guests with stories of her own personal experiences with the Women’s Sevens Team, highlighting the enthusiasm, discipline and grace that the women have shown both on and off the field.
With former Olympian Jane Flemming OAM as MC, guests received an insight into the excitement that surrounding the Rio campaign and the positive impact it has had on the athletes and their family and friends. Tim Walsh, Alicia Quirk, Emma Tonegato, Ellia Green and Laura Waldie were all on hand to talk about the team’s preparations, their idols, and how they balance rugby with studies, flat mates and regular life.
With Rio just over four months away, the ARF wishes the players, Head Coach Tim Walsh and all of his support team the very best, and look forward to celebrating with them again at next year’s Australian Women’s Sevens Lunch.
