Cauliflower Club - The Ultimate Rugby Lunch

The third Ultimate Rugby Lunch was held at The Barrel Room, Roche Estate in the Hunter Valley on Friday 17 March, held to support the work of The Australian Rugby Foundation and The Cauliflower Club.

As in years gone by, all funds raised on the day will be spent in the Region supporting the work of these two impressive organisations.

With generous Sponsors, led by Cessnock Automotive Group, we had a full house of 250 and enjoyed excellent food provided by Wine Country Catering after a convivial pre-lunch Reception on the outdoor area.

Mike Rabbitt, so well-known in Hunter sporting circles, was our MC and he made the very full day move so professionally.  Our main Speaker was Michael Cheika, so open and encouraging in all that he said.

Nick Farr-Jones, co-founder of The Cauliflower Club was at his very best and held the room.

Our Panel was Phil Waugh, Matt Dunning, David Carter and Andrew Edmondson of The Steelers.  Hard to imagine anyone enjoying a better list of talents anywhere, anytime.

Fundraising was at the core of the day alongside fun and camaraderie.  Our additional Sponsors generosity meant that all sparkling, red and white wine and beer was donated and the food, venue and staff were way below cost price.

A quick Heads and Tails was accompanied by Silent and Live Auctions with some marvellous offering on show, again all donated.  Inevitably there was a Raffle with the top prize being a Wall of Wine - 12 dozen of the Hunters best from many of our top wineries.  This was won by our Auctioneer, Alan Jurd of Jurd’s Real Estate, who unhesitatingly decided to Auction it, raising more than $5000.

We are still in the final days of counting but we can look to the day raising approximately $70,000.00 - beyond our best expectations. The Pokolbin Reds will benefit as our host Club with the balance split between our two primary causes.

Country people love their Rugby.  How generous are they…...
